Steeple Claydon Parish Council (SCPC) have previously communicated that the recreation ground has a long-term plan for development; of what is a vital community asset.

The MUGA, Skatepark & Outdoor Gym have all been a part of those plans for development of the recreation ground. However, the time is now right to announce the next stage in that development process.

SCPC are now bringing forward a project to build a new pavilion in the recreation ground.

The project is at a very early stage and nothing is yet decided, aside from the overall project ‘goal’ of a new building. No formal plans are yet in place, no planning applications have been made, and there is no scope decided on what should be included in the new building. In addition, there has been no decision on what happens to the old pavilion building, although various options are being discussed.

We are however working with an architect who has experience of building other local village facilities to an exceptionally high standard, as well as collaborating with other local Parish Councils on their experience of such projects.

What we can say at the moment with absolute clarity, is that we intend to have a ‘café’ type facility included in the build. Again, no details have yet been decided on this aspect; however, we have for some time been in discussion with the Directors of Mollys Community Café about the project.

The following is comment from the directors of Molly’s Community Café:

“ the directors of Mollys Café would be happy to support the development of a community Café in a new pavilion in the recreation ground. We recognise that this will take some time and in the meantime will work to maintain a community café in the village”

We are aware that many parishioners will have concerns, questions, and comments to make on this potential development. We also recognise that there is currently limited information available, and this in itself may cause concerns and questions.

We will however, endeavour to keep the village fully informed as the process moves forward; and will provide information and consultation opportunities as soon as we are able; but we do ask for your patience if we are unable to answer specific questions at this time.

We have created a dedicated email address:

Any interested party should send their contact details to this address, so that we are able to create a mailing list to keep. Emails should also indicate the ‘type’ of interest – i.e. general interest in the project, interest in the assisting the project team, ideas for inclusion in the scheme, interested sports clubs etc.
